Cheesin' at Charleston's
Wow - it’s hot in Kansas City!
It's not surprising, but most of us can't help but complain about it anyway. What do you do when it's hot? Head to the pool? Stay in bed all day? Hire someone to fan you? Personally, I grab some friends and hang out in the air conditioning while surrounded by food and drinks.
The absolute perfect solution to the summer heat is a trip to Charleston's Restaurant! The interior is dark, welcoming and relaxed. The food is delicious and filling. The staff is kind and approachable.
Haven't heard of Charleston's? That's okay - I'll show you!

“Charleston’s is the perfect spot to enjoy a weekday work lunch, date night before a movie or drinks and apps before a local event.”
Cool Cocktails
I'll be honest, I was not expecting such a wonderful list of wines and cocktails! There are numerous white and red wine options as well as a fantastic list of cocktails that includes the following, and more:
Perfect Margarita - Jose Cuervo Tradicional, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, house-made margarita mix (only $8!)
Peach Bellini - La Marca Prosecco, Dekuyper Peach Schnapps, rum, Daily's Peach
Moscow Mule - Tito's Vodka, Gosling's Ginger Beer, fresh mint, fresh lime
Ultimate Long Island - Skyy Vodka, Bombay Sapphire Gin, Bacardi Limon, Grand Marnier, house-made sweet & sour, Coke
For the beer fans, there are draft and bottle beers available, but they are not a highlighted part of the menu.
Sip in style!
Cheesy Choices
The very first item you see when you pick up a Charleston's menu is QUESO - and it's at the top for a reason. A large quantity, perfect for sharing, the queso is a tangy mix of spicy sausage, guacamole, cilantro and cotija cheese. We gasped when we saw our waiter bring out an absolute mountain of warm tortilla chips to join the queso.
We weren't done with appetizers just yet, as the Flatbread Pizza called our names. The pizza is cut up into little baby squares topped with basil pesto, mozzarella, parmesan, tomato, Italian sausage, and fresh basil. It is a flatbread pizza, so it's very lightweight and just a tiny bit crispy!
The Game Changer
It had been years since I had a solid Reuben, and this one was just perfect (c'mon, just look at that photo!). Thick, meaty sliced corned beef, sauerkraut, swiss cheese, with thousand island on the side.
The Reuben comes with fries as a side or you can opt for one of many others. We decided to go with the seasonal vegetable, corn, because we were just feelin' the vibes, you know? Plus, as a seasonal vegetable, it's only around for a limited time! The horror!
The only regret of my visit is that I wasn't able to sit out on their patio because it was a blazing 5000 degrees that day. Of course, that's a KCMO problem, not a Charleston's problem... hahaha.
